This was my first trip to Mexico and what can I say? I fell in love! Mexico is rich with diversity and culture; it has got it all! Which makes it such an excellent destination for any type of traveler.

From Mayan ruins and lush jungles to the pristine Pacific Coast, no matter how many times you'll visit Mexico will keep you wanting to see more. One of my favorite places in Mexico has to be Bacalar!

Bacalar is a magnificent lake on the Mexican Caribbean coast. It's called 7 color lagoon for the multiple shades of blues that you can see on a sunny day

HOW TO GET TO BACALAR:

Plane:


The closest Bacalar airport is Chetumal International Airport, located less than 45 minutes away.

Bus:

This is a very easy way of getting to Bacalar. You can take the ADO bus from Cancun or Playa del Carmen.


Canucn - Bacalar:
•Cost: 34 USD.
•Duration: 5 hours and 40 minutes.

Playa del Carmen - Bacalar:
•Cost: 25.8 USD.
•Duration: 4 hours.

Car:


You can rent a car from Cancun or Playa del Carmen and drive to Bacalar.
•Duration:
From Cancun - 4 hours
From Playa del Carmen - 3 hours and 10 minutes.
•Tip: When driving in Yucatan, your cell signal will likely go in and out. Make sure to also download an offline map via Google Maps

Our Experience: Because we booked our trip last minute we didn't have that many options of places to stay in.
Overall, it's a great place to stay. Right in the center of bacalar. Huge rooms & full kitchen.

TAXI DRIVER:

Rochalio.
When we arrived to Bacalar we took a taxi to our hotel because it was late at night and very dark. Our driver was very kind, we got to talking to him and he gave us his number and drove us around for a reasonable price.

2 Day Itinerary:

 

Day 1:

Sunrise Kayak, Cenote Cocalitos & Cenote Azul

Sunrise Kayak: We booked the tour with Kikáyak I got to Enrique through a friends recommondation. Right away, I knew he was a perfect choice. Most people do the sunrise Sap, but I don't think that for beginners, SAP is the right choice. Enrique is so outgoing, funny, and an exciting person to talk to. He gave us great tips and told us to visit Fort San Felipe, which is a place we did not hear about once. We met up at 4 AM our taxi driver picked us up at 3:45 am and started to kayak in the dark. It was beautiful just us and a million stars in the sky, and then the sunrise was just perfect. As we enjoyed the sunrise, we snacked on nuts, pineapples, and bananas that Enrique had brought. We highly recommend him!

Cenote Cocalitos & Cenote Azul:
The most BEAUTIFUL spot in Bacalar!! They have beautiful swings in the water and hammocks in the water, good vibes and not many people.

Day 2:

Fort of San Felipe & City center.

Fort of San Felipe: The Fort of San Felipe is over 270 years old and provides visitors with a rich view of Bacalar's history and the surrounding region. This beautiful stone Fort is surrounded by a deep “moat” and includes canons and ramparts and an excellent museum with historical artifacts, murals depicting Bacalar’s history, and interactive computer exhibits on the Caste Wars and pirates and their lives.
