Horseshoe Bend is a breathtaking natural landmark located near Page. The name "Horseshoe Bend" comes from the meander's distinctive shape, which resembles a horseshoe's curve. The overlook offers a stunning panoramic view of the bend, with the emerald green waters of the Colorado River winding gracefully around the towering red sandstone cliffs. The overlook is about a 1,000’ drop, looking down onto the Colorado River. 

This spot has exploded on social media and is a must-do when in Arizona. Here's everything you need to know before you visit.

Location: 

It is situated near the town of Page, Arizona.
•Sedona: 159 miles (255 km)
•Monument Valley: 130 miles (209 km)
•Moab: 275 miles (442 km)

 

How to get there:

From Page, AZ drive south on Highway 89 to between mileposts 544 & 545. Look for the exit lane and on the west side of the road which you can drive a short distance on to the parking area.

 

Where to stay:

Page is the closes town to horseshoe bend, it is small but it's got plenty of places to sleep and eat.

We stayed at Super 8 by Wyndham and it was great for 2 nights.

 

Entrance Fee: 

Horseshoe Bend used to be free, however now you'll have to pay 10$ per car. There is absolutely no parking anywhere along Hwy 89 so you can't really avoid paying.

 

Opening Hours:

It is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.

Distance:

0.6 miles one way to the overlook. It is an easy hike with a small elevation gain.

 

Best time to visit: 

Sunset and sunrise are the best time to visit. If you'd like to avoid crowds, come before 8 AM but the best photos are taken during sunset.

 

What to pack:

Take into consideration that there is no shade whatsoever once you park your car you'll be walking 1.5 miles RT in the sun. Bring comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and lots of water.

 

Other ways to experience Horseshoe Bend:

You can book a helicopter ride over the river or take a rafting tour that will take you right down to it.
